The MindforYou Story

A word from Carol, the creator and founder of MindforYou

“I didn’t think about dementia until 2007 when my Mum was diagnosed. My Mum & Dad spent lots of time with their grandchildren, and dementia wasn’t going to change that. Holidays were an important part of our lives, particularly those special ones with Granny and Granda. Sadly, holidays together became a thing of the past. On our last trip, I decided to use what we’d learnt and create something new so people like my Mum and Dad could rediscover those special connections you only find when you’re on holiday together.

So, in 2014 MindforYou was established. We listen to customers and visit them at home to understand what will make their holiday relaxing, enjoyable and special. We’ve taken ~1000 guests on 129 wonderful holidays. I feel privileged to watch guests relax & enjoy themselves, make new friends and rediscover one another’s company. I’ve met wonderful people and I never cease to be touched by those special memories we have helped to create. These are important for us all, but especially for a person with dementia. Their happy feelings will outlast the memory of the occasion!

In 2020 we established daily Zoom sessions and monthly activity packs to help families living with dementia during the COVID-19 pandemic.

None of the above would have been possible without our wonderful, compassionate staff, who continually go above and beyond to help our dementia community”.

Our holidays were precious…

“At the start, regular visits from Scotland to our home in Leicestershire gave Dad a well earned break and Mum a change of scene. Traditional respite did not suit my parents, and visits to Leicestershire became a thing of the past, so we rented cottages in Northumberland. This is when I had the idea for MindforYou, and I started to change my focus from a Pharmaceutical Scientist to supporting families living with dementia.

As my own Mum’s dementia progressed, I realised that no one was providing holiday opportunities for people like her and my Dad, so I started MindforYou.”

Your Holidays are Precious Too

A dementia diagnosis shouldn’t remove your right to a great quality of life. Holidays are precious and a chance to enjoy new places, re-charge the batteries and spend quality time with the ones you love. It’s clear from the photos and thank you cards we receive that we’re making a real difference.
